Basic Boarder

Welcome to Stonebriar Kennels, where we strive to produce the best Border Collies for showing and breeding as possible. We hold very high standards for our dogs, and expect nothing less. We stress good movement and impressive build of the elbows and hips, and consider these traits to be the most important. Secondly, we concentrate on behavior. We will try not to breed for bad behavior, but we also have several methods to correct bad behavior, so behavioral importance comes second to the build of the animal. Stonebriar Kennels has been built on hard work, dedication, research, careful planning, and a whole lot of love and responsibility.

This Kennel is our main kennel, and is located in the beautiful countryside of Bath, England. Here, we house our main line, which we are once more building up. Our main show dogs, breeding stock, and uprising stars from our Border Collie line live here, as this is the location of our main training facilities. Here in Bath, we have many acres of spacious land for the dogs to excersise out on, as well as large indoor kennels and runs, not to mention the main house, as these boys and girls are the most spoiled of all of our dogs. But of course, we tend to spoil all of our dogs, including our secondary line, located along the coastline of Canterbury. Our secondary line will be crossed with our main line housed here, in order to prevent excessive inbreeding, and to raise the faults of our dogs. Here at Stonebriar Kennels, we have always focused on one breed - the magnificent, hard-working Border Collie. From their gentle, loyal nature, to their dedication and intelligence in the work force, the Border Collie is an all-around package dog, whether they are needed for a family pet, a working herder, a show champion, or an event competitor. Stonebriar Kennels has always focused on breeding our Border Collies to excel in any and all situations that they are put in. We have always taken pride in our Border Collies, who have proven themselves time and time again. Even the lines that we established years ago are still prominent in the pedigrees and genetics of the Border Collies on SDN today.

Dog News

3/10/10 - Today is a sad day indeed, as Stonebriar *CH Heartbreak on Vinyl, fondly known as "Blake", passed away due to natural causes at 14 years of age. Without Blake, Stonebriar Kennels would not be where we are today. Not only was Blake an extraordinary show dog, winning over 15 Show Champion title, gaining IKC registration, and earning CHampion status, but he was also a huge asset in our breeding pen. Blake sired several great studs at Stonebriar, including Stonebriar *CH Romeo's Song, who followed in his father's footsteps with IKC registration and CHampion status, and Stonebriar *Blake's Legacy, an outstanding young stud who, at only 3 years old, gained IKC registration, and is now well on his way to CHampion status. Although one of many studs who actually "founded" the Stonebriar lines, we consider Blake to be the one true "Founder of Stonebriar", and his legacy will continue to live on in his pups and their pups for generations to come. That'll do, Blake, that'll do.

2/17/10 - I apologize for not updating this page more frequently. Anyways, since I last posted a news feed, Stonebriar *Alejandro was IKC registered at the age of 1y8m (yep, still a puppy!), and Stonebriar *Chemicals Collide was IKC registered at the age of 3. Stonebriar *CH Romeo's Song also gained his 10th SC, which gave him the right to place "CH" in his name, following in the footsteps of his legendary sire. Speaking of his sire, Stonebriar *CH Heartbreak on Vinyl sired his last litter before reaching the age of 9 years, at which age he was retired permenantly from breeding. We will continue to show him occasionaly, but for the most part, our beloved Blake will just be living the rest of his life out peacefully here at Stonebriar. Stonebriar Jekyll and Hyde, our other foundation stud and an extraordinary sire, reached the age of 9 years and was retired as well.  

2/9/10 - Stonebriar Dangerous Game earned her 5th SC/BB today, and her application for IKC registration was sent to the club's administration. She will be our second home-bred registered dog, and the first pup out of Stonebriar Jekyll and Hyde to be registered. This will also make her recent litter out of Stonebriar *Romeo's Song not only a fully homebred litter, but also a double-registered litter.

2/6/10 - Stonebriar *My Happy Ending, Stonebriar Nobody's Heroine, and Stonebriar MG's Fashion Police were all bred to their pre-appointed studs for pups due 2/9/2010. Tay, already IKC registered herself, was bred to Stonebriar *CH Heartbreak on Vinyl, for a double-registered litter. We are very excited to see how this litter turns out, however, we are not accepting any reservations for this litter. Hailee and Prada were both bred for colored pups - both have a chance of Tri-colors in their litters. So keep your eyes out, and we may have some colored BCs available for sale soon!

2/5/10 - Today we had the opportunity to purchase an exemplary male pup from Yukon Herding Dogs. Stonebriar yukon's Meet Mr. Robinson tested in with 2 qualities, 1 fault, and 79 genetics. Although his genetics alone are impressive, what really drew us to him was his gorgeous coat - he is a perfect example of the Red Bi-Colored Border Collie, and we are extremely excited for him to mature and begin infusing his wonderful color genes into our gene pool. We believe that he is the perfect starting point for our Red/Chocolate lines, and we are very thankful to Yukon for allowing us to purchase him!

Stonebriar Kennels takes pride in its breeding program, a program that has been established through hard work, dedication, extensive research, and lots of planning. In order to continue the Stonebriar legacy, we often match our Border Collies together, in order to produce what we believe to be fool-proof combinations for high-quality litters. In order to keep up with the breed, we are often mating our Border Collies, however, each mating requires extensive planning and research, and we never breed unless we are absolutely certain that the litter will produce top-quality pups.

Pup News

2/23/10 - Four litters were whelped today, and two more are still due this week. Included in this batch of four litters was one of our color breedings, Stonebriar yukon's Meet Mr. Robinson x Stonebriar *My Happy Ending. Unfortunately this breeding only resulted in 4 pups, three of which were still Grey, but Tay did manage to pop a gorgeous Red Merle pup. Another litter that we are rather excited about is out of Stonebriar Cellblock Tango, sired by Stonebriar Poison Touch. Although this litter was small as well (only 2 pups!), both of the beautiful female pups are Black Tri-Colors, a color that we are very proud to be able to produce. Also included in this round was a rather surprise pup out of Stonebriar Nobody's Heroine and sired by Stonebriar *CH Romeo's Song. Although her color is typical (Grey Bi), she was born with 1 Fault and 73/100 genetics, even before the genetics raise, so we are very excited to see how she turns out.

2/17/10 - Wow I've been behind on updates lately. But, to sum things up, we currently have 3 litters on the ground, out of Stonebriar *Dangerous Game, Stonebriar Misplaced Tiara, and Stonebriar Taking Chances. The genetics have raised and we have several 70+g pups as well as two 80+g pups. We are also currently working with out last batch of pups who will be retained/placed for sale within the next day or two.

2/9/10 - 3 litters of pups were born today, totaling 3 pups, 4 pups, and 7 pups. I am extremely pleased with these litters as well, although Spade x Hailee's litter didn't quite result in the color combos that I wanted. All three of her pups are of the White coat color, with only one of them being Tri-Colored. But, we'll see how they raise. Warwick x Prada did produce several Black Tri-Colors whose genetics are already high before raising, so I am very excited to see hwo they turn out. Blake x Tay was a wonderful crossing, I believe, aside from the fact that it is a double-registered litter. All of the pups turned out magnificently, and I am excited to see how they turn out.   

2/3/10 - The pups raised today! These 3 litters turned out incredibly nice. I am especially proud of Jake and Lea's litter, which resulted in four 0-fault pups, one who reached the 85gene mark. Two of these pups will be altered, and one will be retained, leaving five available for sale to the public. Blake did his job right as well, with his and Tia's litter producing three 0-fault pups and two 1-fault pup, with only one pup falling short of our quality line to be altered. After the one altered pup, we will also retain one pup, which means four will be available for sale. Last but not least is our completely homebred litter, with Romeo (out of Blake) crossing with Lucy (out of Jake). This litter of 7 resulted in one 0-fault pup and three 1-fault pups. Three of these pups will be altered and one will be retained, leaving three available for sale. More information on the specific details of which pups will be available will be posted soon.

2/2/10 - 3 litters of pups were born today - one of 6, one of 7, and one of 8. I wonder where those small BC litters went... =P Regardless, I'm pretty pleased with them. I think that they should raise rather well. There are a few more Blue pups than I had hoped, but we'll see how they can prove themselves. These pups will be available for sale in about a week.

Limited - this reservation IS open, however, we cannot guarantee that all reservations will be filled. This case is usually when a brood bitch is whelping for the first time, so we are unsure as to what size litters she will produce

Private - this reservation is open ONLY to specific Border Collie breeders which we have pre-approved - please contact us to see if you qualify for this list

Stonebriar Kennels is first and foremost a kennel focused on improvement of the Border Collie breed and raising our dogs to fulfill breed standards - we are not simply a puppy business. In fact, we do not even consider ourselves to be a business at all, as we are more focused on our dogs continuing a legacy and having the best care as possible, rather than making money. Therefore, we do not always have dogs for sale. In fact, unless we have an upcoming litter, it is rather rare for a Stonebriar dog to be offered up for sale. However, we will occasionally offer our dogs for sale, whether they are too closely related to other dogs in our kennel, or if they have served us well thus far but we feel they would be better off at another kennel, or for other reasons. When this situation arises, purchasing these dogs will not simply mean clicking a button. We will perform an analysis report on all interested buyers, in order to ensure that our dogs are going to the best homes possible. This same procedure will take place when Stonebriar pups are offered for sale.

Stonebriar Kennels has been built on years of hard work and dedication, through numerous failed attempts and successful tries, and through a love and devotion for the breed that we raise. Over the years, we have set many policies into motion here at Stonebriar, policies that we uphold religiously, and will bend for no one.

Breeding/Pup Policies: Before breeding, we compare every possible combination, choosing one that we believe is a foolproof recipe for success. Once bred, we begin to take reservations on the litters, with the first pick belonging to us. When pups are born, they stay with their mother for 6 months, who is shown during that time. Afterwards, we wean them, and keep them for an additional 8 months, working to improve their genetics. Once they are 1 year, 2 months old, we will release them to their new owners.

Showing Policies: Our dogs are continually shown, all in their proper classes. Club registration is our ultimate showing goal, and we work hard to acheive that status. We try to show every day, while taking a day off every now and again to give our dogs a rest. The show circuit is our dog's lives, and they strive for perfection in it, and they seem to love it as much as we do!

Care Policies: Stonebriar Kennels provides nothing but the best care for our dogs. Specially formulated diets are created for each dog, and only the finest materials are used. Our pups are given Healthy Choice Vitamins daily until they turn 2 years old, when they are switched over to Multi-Purpose Vitamins, which we provide for all of our dogs daily. Our dogs are fully groomed every day, as well as have check-ups every day, and routine shots every week. Specialized vitamins and treatments, such as coat vitamins, eye drops, and extra dental care, are given to those who are in need of it. Our dogs are played with, exercised, and rested daily. All pups are trained using various methods, all tested to prove which ones are most effective for that particular dog, daily, until they are 2 years of age. At Stonebriar Kennels, we do not treat our dogs as simply an investment, or "some show animal" - at Stonebriar, they are family!

Sale policies: Once we have bred two dogs, we will usually offer a few of the pups for sale, as well as the occasional adult. However, because so much work has gone into our dogs, we will not let them go to just any home, we do have a few requirements for buyers. Firstly, you must leave Stonebriar or SBK in the name of the dog, where you have it is your preference (front, middle, back). Secondly, you must never allow that dog to go to the shelter. We work too hard to keep our dogs top quality for them to simply end up at the shelter. If we find that a dog that we have sold you has ended up in the shelter without a viable excuse, you as a kennel will be blacklisted on our sales list, either temporarily or permenantly. Also, we do not require it, but we advise that you not cross our dogs with another breed. While we are not against crossbreds, we do not encourage them with our stock. Our dogs have pure lines so far back on their pedigrees, we feel it best to keep their lines pure. Also, please do not haggle over prices. The price we are asking for a dog is set in stone, and we will not lower it, so please do not ask. We price our dogs on what we think is fair, and therefore will stand by it. Also, do not ask to buy a dog and/or pup that is not for sale. If we have a litter of pups and have not yet specified what pups are avaliable, do not message us asking for a specific pup. Once we say who is avaliable, feel free to inquire about pups that are available. Do not however expect us to sell you a dog that is not for sale, because we will not. We have every right to retain any dog and/or pup, and begging for a pup that we have decided to retain will not change our minds about it - it will only change our minds about whether or not you are actually a reputable buyer. For the most part, as long as you are a responsible owner, and promise to care for the dog, you should have no problem with being welcome as a buyer to Stonebriar Kennels.

Adoption Policies: Stonebriar Kennels often, usually once a week, makes shelter runs to find new blood to infuse into our line. We generally adopt dogs who are either shelter-made or have been in the shelter for some time, but occasionally, we may pick up a dog that ended up in the shelter "by accident". If this happens, and you were the previous owner of the dog, do not ask for it back. We believe that once dogs go to the shelter, they are free game for all. If any of our dogs go to the shelter and are picked up by others, we do not ask for nor do we expect to get them back, and therefore we adhere to those rules on the opposite side of the situation as well. So, unless you are a close friend of ours and/or we have worked out the details of the adoption mix-up previously, we will most likely not give "your" dog back to you. We apologize for any inconvenience, but gifting back dogs is simply too much of a hassle and a complication for us, and we do not feel that it is necessary or ethical in any case.

Spay/Neuter Policies: Due to the irresponsible behavior of players altering literally every Border Collie in the shelter, we are, for the vast majority, not altering any dogs that come out of our lines. We ask that if you buy a Border Collie from us that you respect this policy, and leave that particular dog in tact. Our dogs have had a lot of work put into them, and we did not spend this much time on them for people to simply alter them, rendering them useless to pass on the high quality genes of Stonebriar Kennels. The only exception to this rule is if the dog has already exceeded the breeding age limit (8y for bitches, 9y for dogs).

Tag Policies: Here at Stonebriar Kennels, we are extremely strict about tags being left in names. We believe that credit must be given where credit is due, and as such will ensure that all of our dogs not bred by Stonebriar Kennels retain their original tag, whether we bought the pup from the breeder, another breeder, or the shelter. If we bought a dog from you and you did not breed, we will not keep your tag in it - we will change the tag to the breeder's tag, so that they may get credit for the dog that they produced. All of our dog's are named in the following format "Stonebriar tag name". Stonebriar will always go in the front of the dog's name - we are sorry if you want your tag first, but in order to keep our kennels clean and organized and to have a uniform pattern with all of our dogs, the prefix Stonebriar will always be the first word in the dog's name. Following our prefix will be your tag, in bold, so that it is easily definable as the breeder's tag. The tag will then be transcribed into the possesive form - meaning, your tag will be followed by a " 's" to show that your tag has claim to the dog. When it comes to our tag, you MUST keep our tag in any dog's name that comes from Stonebriar lines. If you buy a dog from us which we did not breed, feel free to remove our tag, but if we bred the particular dog, it is required to keep our tag, "SBK", in the name. You may place our tag anywhere in your dog's name, whether it be front, middle, or back. Where is completely your preference, as long as it is in there. If we see that you have a pup that we breed and you do not have our tag in the name, we will message you and ask you to please replace the tag in the pup's name. If you refuse, you will most likely be blacklisted, either temporarily or permenantly.
