Welcome to Neverland Kennels, where we are working with the charming Scottish Terrier. We are currently the only breeder of the Scottish Terrier, and as such, most Soctties on the game are not acceptable to AKC standards based on their traits. We are working to remedy this, and once we have established a solid working line that follows AKC standards, we will open our line up to the public. In doing so we hope to raise the awareness of this marvelous breed and encourage others to join us in breeding proper Scotties.

Here at Neverland, we are currently working with the adorable and energetic Scottish Terrier. Most of the Scotties currently in the SD network do not follow the AKC rules for the breed; therefore, we are working to bring the Scottie up to AKC standards and to strongly establish all of the proper traits. Currently, we are mainly focused on the coats of our Scotties. At Neverland we accept solid Black and Wheaten terriers, as well as Brindle terriers in Black, Blue, or Silver. All other patterns or colors will be seriously faulted. We are also working to establish that the coat length of our Scotties is long, in order to compensate for the long, layered coat that is most preferred in the Scottie. Once we have established the proper coats in our Scotties, we will move on to additional traits, including tails, eyes, ears, noses, and height. Once all of the traits are correct to the Scottie standard, we will then focus on insuring that the movement, behavior, and weight of our Scotties is as desirable as possible. Because it is so hard to find Scottie stock that carry the genes that we ne need, most of our dogs will not be altered unless they do not carry any trait that we are looking for. If they have even the slightest trait that we want passed on to later generations, we will retain them for breeding stock. Also, because the Scottie is so rare right now, we will be crossing them with other breeds to try and establish the proper genes. Once the correct genes have been established however, the crossed breeds will be bred back out so that we have purebred Scottish Terriers who meet the correct breed standards. We are currently abiding by the following standard:

Ears: Medium (Small is acceptable)

Eyes: Brown

Teeth: Good

Nose: Average/Large

Elbows & Hips: Excellent/Good

Coat Color and Pattern: Solid Black, Solid Wheaten (Tan/Beige in game genetics); Silver Brindle, Blue Brindle, Black Brindle

Coat Length: Long (Medium is acceptable)

Tail: Medium/Averaage

Height: Short

Weight: Normal Weight

Behavior: Attentive, Energetic, Hyper (Laid Back and Easy Going accepted, but not prefered); no aggression or vices will be allowed

Here at Neverland, we take our dogs very seriously. We are not a "backyard breeder", nor do we simply pawn our dogs off on the first person who asks for one. We do uphold policies here at Neverland, policies that we have set into place in order to assist our program as effectively as possible.

Dog Policies: Here at Neverland, we hold high standards for our dogs. Since we are working with rare breeds, we are more leniant with genetics and more strict on the actual attributes of our dogs. We are currently concentrating on working in Excellent Movement and preferable behavior (Attentive, Hyper, and Energetic with no vices) into our breed lines, and as such look for dogs that will strengthen these traits. Dogs with Mean or Dangerous behaviors are cautioned against, as are those with Poor to Fair Movement. We do make certain exceptions in these areas if we are planning on using that dog to compliment a dog or bitch in another area, but as a general rule, these traits are not allowed in our kennel. Most importantly of all, however, is the coat colors and pattern of our dogs. Breed registery standard for the Scottish Terrier allows solid Black and solid Wheaten as well as Brindle in specific colors; thus, we are breeding for the Black or Wheaten No Pattern coat, and the Silver, Black, or Blue Brindle coat in our Dogs. As of right now, we are only accepting dogs who have these coat colors and/or patterns. Once we have established these traits, we will begin combining them together and weeding out any additional colors and/or patterns.

Sale Policies: Because one of our main goals here at Neverland is to bring the quality of this breed to AKC standards, and to offer standard dogs to the public, we often offer puppies and/or older dogs for sale to the general public. We also generally accept reservations on upcoming or current litters. However, purchasing a dog from Neverland is much more than simply pushing a button. Future buyers will be chosen based on past experiences, currently owned dogs, and references, amongst other things. Since the breed that we raise is so rare on the game, fellow breeders are first on the list to purchase from Neverland. Since the need for repopulation of these breeds is so dire, we are more likely to sell dogs to people who are dedicated to promote, populate, and increase the quality of the respective breed, and who will continue our work of proper coat coloring and pattern with the breed. We will also occasionally offer dogs for sale to show-only homes and rescues.

Pricing Policies: At Neverland, we are focused primarily on promoting the proper standards of the Scottish Terrier, not making money. As such, we are attempting to provide the most reasonable prices as possible for our dogs. Since these breed conditions ARE rare, the price to purchase one will be more than a common breed that you can find anywhere, however, we are attempting to bring you the most reasonable as well as affordable prices for these breeds. Our prices, however, are set in stone - please do not ask us to lower them. We have had much past experience with buyers trying to haggle over prices, which is a process that we do not wish to take part in. We have set prices for our dogs based on what we believe they are worth, and that is what we will ask for them, whether you wish to pay it or not. Generally, our prices will follow the charts below. Some exception may be made based on quality, attributes, pedigree, history, etc.:

We realize that some pups and or dogs may be priced over $1000 due to falling into multiple catergories, and as such we will make minor adjustments to the general-rule prices to fit each specific dog. Sometimes we will offer dogs up for over $1000, but only if we feel that the dog is truly worth it. Generally, purchasing from Neverland will drop you in the $300-$800 range.

At Neverland, we believe in having high quality dogs to foster our lines, as well as provide stud service to fellow breeders in need. Unless noted, all of our dogs are avaliable for stud, with requested bitches following these guidelines:

  • Purebred or second-generation crossbred of their respective breed
  • Full health and up-to-date on shots
  • A current show record with no disqualifications in the past 3 shows
  • No behavioral vices (certain exceptions accepted)
  • No movement problems (certain exceptions accepted)
  • Accepted Scottish Terrier coat colors and patterns ONLY
  • We will review the predicted results and must deem them to be acceptable before granting the breeding request

If you wish to send a stud request to one of our dogs, please review the predicted results, send a stud request, and also message us informing us of which dog you would like to breed to, and with what bitch. We will review the breeding and hopefully respond back to you within 24 hours.

The crown jewel of any well-established kennel is their brood bitches. At Neverland, we take pride in our lovely ladies having the best possible traits for their breeds, as well as mannerisms that they will pass on to their pups. While we will not generally offer our bitches out for public breedings, we will occasionally allow our bitches to be bred with outside studs on request, unless that bitch is currently set to breed with another stud. Qualifiactions for breeding with our bitches includes:

  • Requested stud MUST be a purebred of the bitch's respective breed. No exceptions!
  • Requested stud must have 65+genetics, unless otherwise discussed (due to traits, attributes, mannerisms, pedigree, etc.)
  • Requested stud must be in full health and up-to-date on all shots
  • Requested stud must have a current show record with no disqualifications for the past 5 shows
  • Requested stud must have a coat color and pattern that is acceptable by the AKC for Scottish Terrier standards ONLY
  • It is preferred that the requested stud is a proven stud, however, since we are dealing with such rare breeds, this is not a requirement, just a preference.
  • The owner of the stud will recieve one pup from the litter as payment for using the stud. This pup will be the owner's choice of pups after we have already chosen which pup we wish to retain. The owner of the stud may have the option of purchasing more than their one allotted pup, however, they will have to purchase additional pup(s) at their specified sale prices.

If you have any questions about requesting a breeding with one of our bitches, please contact us.

Because the breed standards here at Neverland are so rare, breeding is of course an essential part of our kennels. However, we do not simply breed two dogs together in hopes of raising the population - we still perform extensive research in order to match up the best pair as possible, who will pass admirable traits on to their offspring, and who will correct the faults and vices of their mate. Pairing up and breeding is a very serious business at Neverland, one that takes months to plan. Oftentimes, when we retain a female pup from a litter, we are already searching for a mate for her before she even reaches adolescence. We try to breed females three times in their lifetime, but will not rush breedings or perform unecessary breedings if we cannot find a suitable mate. Studs have unlimited use, although we do request that they are only bred to a maximum of two bitches per month. We will post updates on future breedings, current litters, and available pups in this area, as well as past accomplishments and success stories with our pups.

Recent Breedings:

In order to help kick-start our breeding program, we had two spliced litters this week with a total of 3 spliced puppies. We also had 2 normal litters. Our turnout this week was wonderful in consideration of traits and qualities. The following pups will be retained at Neverland:

  • Tempera - Tempera was from one of our spliced breedings and was a from a single-pup litter. Tempera is a beautiful Solid Black and has a wonderful 9 out of 12 genetic traits correct for the Scottish Terrier breed. Sadly, she is Protective with two behavioral flaws, but we will work to keep those under control. Tempera will be used as a brood bitch to help establish proper traits. Her failing areas are: Ears (Large)|Height (Medium)|Behavior (Protective+2 flaws)
  • Graffiti - Graffiti will be the wonderful start of our Brindle line. He was from the second of our spliced breedings and was in a litter of two. He is the gorgeous Silver Brindle that we bred for, and has an extraordinary 10 out of 12 correct genetic traits for the Scottie standard. He does have a behavioral flaw of biting, though his behavior is easy going. His failing areas are: Tail (Long)|Height (Medium)
  • Ceramic - Ceramic was our surprise boy. He was from our second spliced litter and was in a litter of 2. While his brother took the Silver Brindle genes of his father well, Ceramic popped out with completely random genes concerning his coat. However, his color was actually one of the founding colors that we were planning on using for our Wheaten line. So although his pattern is not correct, Ceramic will still serve as one of the foundational blocks for our Wheaten line. Ceramic has 8 out of 12 genetic traits correct for the Scottie standard. His failing areas are: Eyes (Golden)|Nose (Medium)|Coat Pattern (Boxer Markings)|Height (Medium)|

From our Traditional litters, we will be retaining:

  • Aquatint - GSD X; Solid Black; 8(carrier of 9) out of 12 correct traits
  • Chisel - Black Ticked; 8 out of 12 correct traits
  • Papier-mâché - Solid Black; 8 of 12 correct traits
  • Polychrome - Solid Black; 9(carrier of 10) out of 12 correct traits
  • Sumi - Solid Dark Brown; 9 out of correct traits

Planned Breedings:

On 5.18/19.12, the following bitches will be bred:

  • Papier-mâché - bred for Solid Black pups (1st generation Scottie; closed)
  • Tempera - bred for Brindle pups in Black and Silver (1st generation Scottie; closed)
  • Sumi - bred for Small Height pups (Scottie/Irish Setter Xs; closed)
  • Gesso - bred for Small Height pups (Scottie/Irish Setter Xs; closed)
  • Blacklight - bred for Small Height pups (Scottie/Borzoi Xs; closed)
  • Magna - bred for Small Height pups (Scottie/Borzoi Xs; closed)

In our efforts to promote and populate the breed-standard Scottish Terrier, we will often offer both pups and adult dogs for sale. Buying from Neverland is not an easy process, however, and will require buyer approval from Neverland. We are attempting to price our dogs as affordably as possible, but as we do raise extremely rare breeds, prices will be higher than they would be with more common breeds. We believe that our prices are very reasonable, both in terms of the specific dog and the current population state of the breed. We want these breeds to be well-populated, and as such will ofer dogs as affordable and reasonable as possible, while still balancing the economy of these breeds.
