SICK of this...
So the animal shelter here, it's horrible.I really wanted to volunteer, really bad. I love animals and especially dogs, and walking a dog or socializing kittens has to be the best volunteer oportunity.
The shelter is strict on adopting. I would understand that the shelter would like compatible owners...but the shelter is a kill shelter, and they are being too strict. My grandma was going to get a couple of cats to be outside cats and get rid of rodents(they live in the country) and they were denied! What's wrong with outside cats??I adopted my Boxer boy from there, and we basically had to lie about a bunch of stuff to get the dog.
I was down at the shelter weeks ago, and I filled out an application for volunteering there. She said there was to be a training class sooner or later, and that they would call me when there was open time. It's been weeks and they still haven't called me.Their email doesn't work. Their volunteer form isn't updated(only the online on is.)
I'm so sick of them. There's also been a newspaper article complaining about them.
I've heard some people work there for community service. Which means they probably don't like animals.
This is a rant. >.< And also, I'm not really sure what to do...

That's horrible! Maybe you should write a story about it and put it up on the web, so people can hear what's going on and at least try to change it... Sorry about your grandma, that's so unfair! Cats and Dogs were originally supposed to live outside and catch their own food, so not only would those cats of helped your grandma. But they also would have been doing what came naturally to them...
Anyway good luck!

Wow! Passion comes with a heart not with strict rules! Those animals dont get a chance! That needs to be stopped! i cant stand having an animal shelter kill animals! Someone needs to stop it! like now!
Yeah we went to a shelter that wouldn't even let you view the animals until you were approved and that took months. I think that they should look at the family as a whole. Sometimes what appears to be a good family isnt and visa versa.ex. I know a family that has three dogs right now. They have a house and about an acre of backyard that is completely fenced. They are home often. So they would have gotten approved from shelter and have. What really goes on though is they get a dog play with it for a month then stick it outside or in its crate. They leave frequently for family trips and the dogs are left outside all day. They had a GSD and he ran away so they got another one who was awesome but they ignored it so much that it became aggressive and snapped at one of the kids so off to the shelter he went. Then their lab followed soon after because he was too hyper. Then they got a silky and then a male to breed her too. Sold the pups and the dogs got killed or stolen. Then they got boxers, and bred them too. The mother is currently looking to get rid of them.
I am not home often but I love my cat Landon to death and he was from a shelter. He is taken care of and loved whenever I am home and he is fine. Now why would I be denied to adopt? My parents were denied because their house didnt have enough square footage and they had two cats already and the shelter said that they had maxed out their pet limit.
#1 Cats are inside animals. It's the shelters job to make sure animals don't get placed back into a worse situation then the one they came from.
Their are FAR worse things then a humane death out ther to animals.
A cat left outside will die sooner then an inside cat, gets no benifit from being kept out side, is far more likly to contact deases get attacked by a dog ,other cats or wild animals,. May get hit by a car, shot at, trapped , or any number of injuries.

#2 lieing on your paper work?
#3 Your humane society isn't snobby, they have to hold an insurance policy and theres mostlikly dosn't cover minors.
#1 my cat isn't an inside animal, and they are CERTAINLY not. The shelter even sells Feral cats. My outside cat is 15yrs old. There are these things called RESCUES that are 100% willing to take in new cats right now. They're called Whiskers Tails and Ferals, and there's another in St Helena that actually isn't full right now.
#2 Since I want to rescue a dog instead of it dying, yeah. We have a huge backyard, another Boxer who is friendly, we're middle-class and capable for caring for a dog, have no small childern, and my mum's a stay at home mom (except for two days) so there's no reason. My doggy is healthy and happy!
#3 They are snobby, LOL. Their insurance policy does cover minors, you sign a waiver before actually filling out the real paper work.
Now calm yourself! My animal shelter kills animals and sucks, okay?
At our shelter, which is also a kill shelter, yoou can't adopt an animal unless their will always be someone home 24 hours a day everyday. So if your family goes to church on sunday, you cant adopt. If you ever visit anyone, you cant adopt. They didnt let us adopt because my family was gone for 3 hours on weekdays when school and my parents job hours overlap. When I visited the shelter a week later the dog had been put down. How is that a better alternative? He wouldnt even have been alone, we have very friendly dogs to keep him company. Shelters dont make sense sometimes. At least ours are easy-going about volunteering. you can sign-up pretty easy and get a set time, or just show-up and ask if there's something you can help with.
